Influence of Hydraulic Response Time of Tensiometer in Hydraulic Characteristics Estimation for Riverbank Sand

نویسندگان

چکیده

The knowledge of the continuous evolution soil hydraulic characteristics is required for several environmental geotechnical applications such as capillary barrier systems and river bank slope stability analysis. Such data are obtained in field by embedding suction sensors slopes equilibrium time other limitations establishing not available compacted soils. Thus influence initial moisture content, wetting condition sensor, compaction density on tensiometer was studied riverbank sand. A laboratory method considering at each saturation/drying state proposed equilibrium-SWCC data. found to vary from a few hours days depending upon magnitude sensor. conventional estimating instantaneous SWCC severely overestimated values given water content. sensor response be single most influencing factor estimation characteristics. in-situ application should replaced with readings combined lab-based approach.

Hydraulic aspects of riverbank filtration—field studies

The Düsseldorf waterworks have been using riverbank filtration since 1870 with bank filtration as the most important source for public water supply in this densely populated and industrialised region. There have been many threats to this supply in the last few decades—e.g. poor river water quality, heavy clogging of the riverbed, accidental pollution—which had to be overcome. First field studie...

Characteristics of Hydraulic Jump

The effect of an abruptly expanding channel on the main characteristics of hydraulic jump is considered experimentally. The present study was made for supercritical flow of Froude number varying between 2 to 9 and approach to expanded channel width ratios 0.4, 0.5, 0.6 and 0.8. Physical explanations of the variation of these characteristics under varying flow conditions are discussed based on t...

Parameter Identification and Real-Time State Estimation in Hydraulic Actuators

This paper deals with the challenging aspect concerning the state estimation in hydraulic actuators characterized by not negligible nonlinearities. Particularly,. One of the most common hard nonlinearities in hydraulic actuator is the deadzone. More specifically, dead-zone occurs in hydraulic control valves when its spool occludes the orifice with an overlap, so that for a range of spool positi...

The influence of topology on hydraulic conductivity in a sand-and-gravel aquifer.

A field experiment consisting of geophysical logging and tracer testing was conducted in a single well that penetrated a sand-and-gravel aquifer at the U.S. Geological Survey Toxic Substances Hydrology research site on Cape Cod, Massachusetts. Geophysical logs and flowmeter/pumping measurements were obtained to estimate vertical profiles of porosity phi, hydraulic conductivity K, temperature, a...
